I look at a stork's nest on a power pole, open to storms and winds. Unsafe, ugly, with a bleak view all around - to farms, to the highway, to a dirty barn. And the stork raises children there, and for those children their nest - that pile of jaggery - looks like a wonderful home.

If I built a house in the most picturesque place in the world, and there was a swimming pool, big windows to the mountains and sunrises, and a lot of space, and a high sky, and the rooms were so artistically furnished that the guests would say "oh my, this is it" - and if in that house with loneliness would take over me - I wouldn't stay there for long.

 But if the most beloved people were sitting with me in that house, or in a mountain hut, or in a dormitory room - then it doesn't matter whether it's in the Maldives or Kalabybiškis - that would be the best place to return to. From a distance, maybe even from a distance of months, I would begin to dream that I was walking along the sinking road at night towards the light in the window, that I was knocking and waiting. I hear approaching steps, a familiar gait, a voice "who's there?", and the door opens.

I sink into my beloved's arms and melt.
